360° Rotating Car Seats

A 360° rotating car seat turns towards the open door, so you can lift, settle and buckle your little one without twisting into the back seat. Explore swivel car seats from Maxi-Cosi and Britax Safe-n-Sound, designed for travel from birth to approximately 4 years.

Why Choose a 360° Rotating Car Seat?

Every car seat has to keep your child safe. A rotating car seat also makes the moments either side of the drive easier. Instead of leaning across the back seat to lift and buckle your child, you turn the seat to face the open door, settle them in and secure the harness from a natural standing position. Then you rotate it back into rearward or forward-facing travel.

That small change adds up. It helps when you're recovering after birth, juggling a newborn in a tight car park or lifting a growing toddler several times a day. It can also make buckling far less of a negotiation with a wriggly little one.

At Kiddie Country, our rotating car seats come from trusted brands including Maxi-Cosi and Britax Safe-n-Sound. Each seat is designed for Australian vehicles and approved to the Australian Standard AS/NZS 1754.

Compare Our Rotating Car Seats

Each seat in our range rotates through 360° and suits children from birth to approximately 4 years. Here's how they differ:

  • Maxi-Cosi Raia 360 LX - Rearward facing to approximately 30 months, with SMART Lock™ seatbelt installation and clear tension indicators. It has patented Air Protect® side-impact protection, a 10-position headrest, a plush newborn insert and ECOCare fabrics made from recycled materials. A spare base is available if you use two cars.
  • Britax Safe-n-Sound B-Swivel Style 360° - ClickTight self-tensioning installation using the vehicle's lap and sash belt, with a green indicator to confirm the fit. It adds deployable side impact cushion technology, a dynamic rearward level indicator and breathable fine mesh Style Collection fabrics.
  • Britax Safe-n-Sound Graphene 360° - A one-hand swivel with a 90° door-facing pause, simplified seatbelt installation and a compact footprint suited to smaller vehicles. It also has an active head restraint with deep side wings and three forward-facing recline angles.

Rearward and Forward Facing in One Seat

A rotating car seat is a type of convertible car seat. It's used rearward facing from birth, then turned forward facing when your child is ready, all without reinstalling the seat.

  • Under 6 months - In Australia, babies must travel rearward facing in a restraint with an in-built harness.
  • From 6 months - Children may legally move to a forward-facing restraint. Keeping them rearward facing for longer offers extra protection while they're within the seat's shoulder height markers.
  • Up to around 4 years - The seats in this collection use a built-in harness until approximately 4 years of age. Your child can then move to a booster seat.

Age is only a guide. Always use the shoulder height markers on the seat and follow the manufacturer's instructions when deciding when to change modes.

Will a Rotating Car Seat Fit My Car?

Rotating seats sit on a larger base than many standard convertible seats, so it's worth checking the fit before you buy. Consider:

  • Back seat depth - Rearward-facing mode takes up more front-to-back space, which can affect front passenger legroom in smaller cars.
  • Door clearance - The seat needs room to turn towards the door, so check the gap between the seat and the door frame.
  • Anchor points and installation - Check where your vehicle's top tether point is and whether you'll install with the seatbelt or ISOFIX, depending on the model.
  • Seating position - Many parents prefer a rear side position so the seat can turn towards the kerb.

Using Your Rotating Car Seat Safely

Rotation is a convenience feature for loading and unloading only. Before every drive, make sure the seat is locked in its travel position. Most rotating seats use a red-to-green or similar indicator to confirm it's secure. Check the harness is snug, the top tether is attached and tight, and the headrest is at the right height for your child.

Have your seat professionally fitted if you're unsure, and avoid second-hand car seats unless you know their full history, as a seat that has been in a crash may not protect as designed.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a 360° rotating car seat?

---

Are rotating car seats safe?

Rotating car seats sold in Australia must be approved to the Australian Standard AS/NZS 1754, the same as other child restraints. Always make sure the seat is locked in its travel position before driving, and follow the manufacturer's installation instructions.

---

Can I use a rotating car seat from birth?

Yes. The rotating car seats in our range are suitable from birth, using a newborn insert where supplied, and can be used up to approximately 4 years. Always check the shoulder height markers for your child.

---

Do rotating car seats fit in small cars?

Many do, but rotating seats can take up more space than standard seats, particularly in rearward-facing mode. Check the seat's dimensions, your back seat depth and the clearance to the door before you choose.

Do rotating car seats need ISOFIX?

Not always. The Maxi-Cosi Raia 360 LX and Britax Safe-n-Sound B-Swivel Style and Graphene 360° install with the vehicle seatbelt and top tether, so they suit cars with or without ISOFIX points.
